I just came from having lunch here and I am absolutely livid. This place is so perfectly placed to be a great dumpling house, to do great things in and for Highland Park and instead it absolutely sucks. It would be one thing to be an abusive Chinese SGV hole in the wall place that serves heavenly food and terrible service, but this? And before you read any further, I am Taiwanese American, LA raised and born, lifelong vegetarian. Plus I hardly review places. I'm pretty tolerant generally but not in this case. Mason's, you charge hipster prices for self serve and much less than par veggie dumplings? Dude, your veg dumplings are just like my grandmother's rejects--doughy, tough, bland filling; thick skinned like yourselves. So beyond disappointing. And the two batches I received weren't even steamed hot--lukewarm with a lot of steam for show. The place wasn't even busy, yet you don't bring any plates. So I made do on my own, using the tiny to-go plastic sauce container to eat. When that spilled all over me, my coat since the teeny container is meant to be ONLY for SAUCE not WHOLE dumplings, your chefs and host just stood and watched me since I was seated right across from the register. Beyond rude and I am beyond disturbed by your level of indifference and contempt for customer service. I will not be coming back until things are much improved. Shame on you! From a fellow Chinese.

Nice little dumpling place in the middle of the least expected place. I liked the juicy pork, but vegetable dumplings were better. Pan fried dumplings were pretty decent. The boiled leak dumplings were a bit salty for me, but they were not bad. Clean, affordable, and tasty. Frankly, I was getting tired of Din Tai Fung, so this place was a great alternative, like Dan Noodles.

Over promise and under deliver on time expectation of food. They said "our food is not the fastest cooking food" clearly understand that , so set a realistic time frame and all would be okay. Also cooks walk away to answer their phone and leave the orders which would explain why the food is not the fastest cooking food.

This place is awesome! Definitely a nice hidden gem in Highland Park. The restaurant is in a little strip mall. The restaurant is counter service. The food comes out super fast. You can be in and out in like 25 mins depending how fast you eat. The restaurant isn't too big. There are about 6 tables and about 5-6 counter seats against the wall or window. This place might be hard to sit big groups. There is one picnic table that can seat 6-7. Onto the food. We got two buns and two different types of dumplings. We got the angus beef bun and the stewed pork belly bun. Both had very tasty meat that was super tender and flavorful. The meat was so tender that they fell apart if you tried picking it up with a chopstick. The only issue I had with the bun was the hot chili oil that was on the bun. It made the bun soggy and fall apart. It was difficult to eat without destroying the bun. In addition I think too much chili oil was sprinkled on. I think they should let people who want it out it on. But the meat tasted really good and it was a decent portion. The dumplings were excellent. The boiled dumplings with pork and shrimp were spot on. They were super fresh and tasty. They are nicely sized and you get a decent portion. The soup dumplings were spot on. They were nice and soupy inside. Make sure to grab them from the top and sprinkle a little ginger and vinegar on top! They come out pretty hot so be careful. I know I'll definitely be back. I know I want to try the pan fried dumplings and a rice bowl. Everyone seemed to be eating those. The buns were good but I would definitely prefer the dumplings. It was nice to try the buns but they were ok. There is parking in the small lot but lots of street parking and a parking lot nearby. Definitely great place and reasonably priced. Definitely will be on my monthly rotation.

Another disappointing eatery in my neighborhood. As a true HLP resident since birth and one that has seen HLP change, this place and its dumplings are a dud. Costco bought dumplings are actually good in comparison to Masons. The customers that go here are presumptuous and pompous transplants that were looking for a cheaper rent while still being close to LA. By the way the food is super greasy.
